Notes
Taken from the "San Franciscan Nights 2" compilation, put together by the Hell's Honkies Tape Club.
This performance is from a missing reel of this show. The beginning of the show is in circulation:

As well as the last song, Midnight Hour:
http://db.etree.org/shn/97671
The ending of the show is more complete in the Vault (including Casey Jones, Midnight Hour, and Jerry's announcement of Jefferson Airplane), as heard on the dead.net Taper's Section:
http://www.dead.net/features/tapers-section/august-29-september-4-2011
Only the end of the show is in the Vault, so the middle of the show is still missing from circulation. I believe the Not Fade Away>Easy Wind comes from the lost reel, most likely held by a collector who hasn't put the full reel into circulation.
It is my hope that the rest of the show will surface. My intent is to circulate at least this portion separately from its obscure placement in "San Franciscan Nights 2."
Not Fade Away is a rare 1969 version, the first complete performance since 2/19/69. The Dead did not start performing it regularly until 12/21/69.
Easy Wind is an early version, which cuts out.

Source here is a bit muffled than the one's we're used to in trying to piece together this white whale; wonder if we could get the Casey Jones put up on the LAMA?
This performance of NFA is maybe the jam highlight of a quirky show. Definitely one to add to the rest of your playlist for 9/6/69.
